Coffee in Tübingen

If you’re anything like me as a student and person, coffee is one of the most important aspects of your daily life. Therefore, I think it’s important to take note of the supply of coffee when considering moving to a new city. Rest assured, Tübingen has plenty of cafes. Here’s a bit about them, so you can know what to expect and can maybe find your new favorite place to get coffee!

  1. Schwarzes Schaf
This coffee shop serves a dual function as a club at night, but during the day it is an extremely charming cafe! The environment is extremely cozy and they are one of the few places in Germany that give you water for free. Not to mention you also get a small plate of cookies with whatever you order! The coffee and tea here are nice, but not particularly remarkable, but are served in adorable cups.

  1. Uni Bib
So usually I end up grabbing coffee while studying in the library. Unlike UMass’s Procrastination Station, there is no designated just cafe in the library, but there’s a small cafeteria that serves coffee. There are machines that you can get coffee from, but the coffee in those machines is not super high quality and might only serve to get a caffeine fix. However, you can also pay a little more and order coffee at the counter in the cafeteria and get served a decent quality coffee.

  1. Keim
My love of this bakery comes from it’s convenient place right next to the Deutsch als Fremdsprache Building. During my first semester in Tübingen, I enrolled in an Aufbaukurs which required me to attend classes nine hours a week. We would have a break for fifteen minutes every day we had class and the whole class would go down to Keim and all get cappuccinos and Butterbrezeln. It made the three hour class easier to get through and wasn’t bad quality idea.

  1. Ranitzky
This is one of my favorite places just because of its location. It’s in the middle of the Marktplatz and because of the, when the weather is good, there is nothing  better than sitting outside drinking a coffee there. They also have many other drinks and foods besides what you’d expect at a standard coffee shop. It is more of a restaurant, but when it is not a meal time, it has a very nice café feel.

  1. Other Marktplatz one
This is another café that is located on the Marktplatz. The location is wonderful and the coffee is pretty good. It doesn’t have as many options as Ranitzky, but if you just want a cappuccino, it is very relaxing.

  1. Café Hanseatica
This café reminds me of ones I’ve seen in Italy. You order at the counter and then there are places to drink the coffee standing up - very much like the classic Italian bar. The coffee is very good

  1. Padekaffee
This coffee shop is very convenient because it’s near the Hauptbahnhof. I’ve only been there a couple of times, but it’s got a nice vibe with decent coffee.

  1. Willi’s

Definitely my favorite coffee shop in Tübingen. They are slightly more American when it comes to the style of drinks they serve. You can get iced coffee and milkshakes and many other summer drinks. They also have amazing cupcakes and cinnamon rolls. Many of their pastries are vegan which has made it a favorite among vegan friends of mine. It has a very relaxed vibe and I feel very comfortable spending time with friends and doing homework there
